Learning Detectives
Asher, Dean Teagan and Gabi were doing some detective work today and finding good learners in year 5. They were watching and recording names of students who were listening well to the teacher, asking intelligent questions, agreeing and disagreeing and also contributing well to the discussion. Well done to all the students who made it into the good learners book (you know who you are!!!)

Newspapers in Education
Our Literacy programme is based on the serial story in the Newspaper every Tuesday. The children read the story together then complete reading, writing, viewing and speaking and listening activities throughout the week. In this photo, Rebecca, Aaron and Olivia are working in a collaborative reading group. Each child has completed an individual activity based on the story and now they are discussing their work with each other. The Serial Story in Term 2 was a different newspaper article each week based on a classic story. The children learned about Frankenstein, Lady Godiva, Robin Hood, Hamlet, Animal Farm and others.
Science in Year 5
In Semester 1, Year Five learned about the properties of materials. In this experiment, the students worked collaboratively to test the absorbancy of different materials. They dropped liquid onto paper towel, plastic and dishcloth to see if it would leak, soak or repel. In science groups, the children get to share their predictions with each other and discuss ideas.
